Everyone deserves to be understood and to understand.

Patricia Austin, M.A. CCC-SLP, TSSLD Founder and Owner, Foundations Therapy of South Carolina

Patricia graduated from Queens College, N.Y. in 2012 with her Master’s degree in speech-language pathology and TSSLD certification (Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities). She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and is licensed to practice in South Carolina, Georgia and New York. She has completed the Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham Plus training to support individuals who struggle with reading/literacy.

Patricia has extensive experience working with children from birth to 21 years of age in a variety of settings. She has provided services in-home, preschool, elementary/middle/high school, daycare and clinic settings. She is experienced in working with a variety of disorders including: receptive-expressive language disorders, phonological disorders, articulation disorders, social communication disorders, and specific conditions such as Dyslexia, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Prior to becoming a speech-language pathologist, Patricia gained a wide array of skills and experiences in the corporate world, including hiring, people management, training and corporate communications. Those skills plus her specialized SLP training, help make her an effective coach for those who need help with paper writing, resume writing, job interview skills, and presentation skills.

Having had a previous career in the airline industry, Patricia has extensive experience in communicating with people with different native languages and accents. She understands well the difficulty of conversing in a language that is not your native language, and the difference that an accent can have on being able to make yourself understood. This led to an interest in working with non-native English speakers who wish to improve their pronunciation of standard American English to enhance their communications with native English speakers.
